In my social problems class we discussed the problems in "zion". This text is a look at two kinds of mormons and how they approach things differently.
What the Church means to people like me

As I read this I asked myself that same question. Eventually I concluded that I am a Liahona. But I don't really want to say that without making some modifications to my membership in the liahona group.
The generalizations of all active members into two groups of people is helpful in identifying and understanding that there are different ways of perceiveing the gospel and ones relationship with God, but it is too general to define with accuracy any one person. Some of the characteristics of Liahonas that do not represent me are the view of prayer and veiw of coincidents. I believe I have had real and significant interventions in my life from the Lord and the Lord plays an active and significant part in my life and all my blessings.

That being said, I also believe that some people in the church have become supersticious and ascribe overdramitic importance to ephemeral events and even yeild their agency to dogma.

It is my hope that I can see any understanding or interpertation of the Gospel as an individuals search to know God, that the methods may be different but the path is the same. That my role in another's relationship with God is only to live what I know. Not to force them to adhere to my understanding.
